暦の上ではもう春です! Happy Spring!
A big thanks for everyone who came to our Setsubun event! We hope this year brings you lots of good luck! Here are just a couple photos from our event, but if you want to see all of them, please click the link here http://shorturl.at/kwxUX
*This link is open until March 13.

豆まき (Mamemaki) Bean Throwing Festival
A bean-throwing ritual to cleanse away all the evil from the previous year and the new year.
Roasted soybeans ( 福豆 fortune beans) are thrown out the door or at the evil spirits or Oni (demon or ogre) while yelling, Demons out! Luck in!
In Japanese: 鬼は外!(Oni wa soto) 福は内!(Fuku wa uchi)

恵方巻 (Ehō-maki)
It is a custom to eat uncut, large sushi rolls called ehō-maki (恵方巻, lucky direction roll) for good luck and fortune. The rule is to eat in silence while facing the year's lucky compass direction, determined by the zodiac symbol of that year. The 2020 direction is SW. (255° on a compass)

Heads up! Our next event, Hinamatsuri (Peach Blossom Festival), will be held on March 20! Additionally, we will be having a Matcha Bake Sale at Coffman Memorial Union from 11am to 4pm! Please check the details on our Facebook or newsletter!
